Berlin In the 1940's
Something that I learned that I did not know already about Berlin in the 1940s was that the underground scene was so much larger than i thought. They had bunkers made for dancing and music. It was the heart for a lot of political happenings during that decade and the few before and after.
From learning about berlin in the 40s a lot has changed to now, it is seen as a major city that is strong with many embassies and as the capital of germany, back then it was constantly under attack and weak. Almost all the buildings in berlin are from after the war compared to many other places in german where most are from pre WWII or WWI. Something else that I saw was that Berlin still keeps the past alive, they museums dedicated to how it used to be and to show how much they have changed, there is a metal structure in the shape of a dome to represent a famous church that was destroyed during the war. There has been so much change is just the past few years there.
I really liked the dancing artifact because it was really fun to learn a dance and actually do it. It was really challenging to find what kind of dancing they did because they did not keep record in case the nazis found them because it was banned. We had to use american dancing to make it due to there being no record. I also really liked dancing and I found it really cool that we were able to do it for school project.
I learned the most about the political aspect the most because that is the most well known and recorded. I also learned a lot about what happened in other countries during that time, like what happened in the USA before, during, and after the war.
The artifacts were interesting to say the least, it would have been better if we were not doing multiple projects at the same time like MUN. The major this I would change is that the presentations were able to be longer for many of them they felt rushed and they were not able to show everything they did.
We read potsdam: the end of world war one and the remaking of europe the book was really interesting and it talked about everything that involved politics during that time and how everything happened. I also went into detail about everything, it talked about the happenings with the us government for a while to help give context to what they did and why after the was at potsdam. The actual Potsdam conference was held in a part of berlin that has now become its own city inside of the region of berlin. But back in 1945 when it happened it was in berlin.
My artifacts are in the presentation linked below.
